How to make Homemade coconut oil playdough

DIY Coconut Oil Playdough

In my household, we like a bit of DIY, mainly when it comes to activities with my daughter. We’ve made DIY coconut oil playdough in the past, which was fun and messy and part of the appeal to my daughter as she was allowed to make a mess! I recently found this DIY coconut oil play dough recipe on Niulife by Becc Harnas. Fun to play with and left our hands feeling soft.

DIY Coconut Oil playdough Ingredients (1 jar)

  • Flour 1 cup
  • ½ cup of salt
  • Coconut oil 2 tsp spoons of coconut oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • Two tablespoons of cream of tartar
  • Food colouring of choice (4-5 drops per dough recipe, more for a darker shade of colour)

Method

  1. Combine water, food colouring, and coconut oil in a pot or saucepan and mix.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all your dry ingredients (1/2 Cup Salt, 1 cup flour, 2 tbsp of cream of tartar) and mix well until the ingredients combine thoroughly.
  3. Over low to medium heat, combine the dry ingredients within the saucepan.
  4. Cook over low to medium heat, stirring with a wooden spoon, until it forms a dough and looks dry.
  5. Once it forms a dough-like ball and looks fully cooked (playdough consistency), you can remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 15 minutes.
  6. Once the dough has cooled, knead it for a few minutes with your hands to make it nice and soft.

There you go! You already made homemade playdough.
