Slow Cook Dahl Recipe

Slow Cook Dahl Recipe

Do you want to know how to make a slow cook dahl recipe? It’s an easy dish to feast on!

Whenever I go home, my mum always asks, “Beta, what would you like to eat?” and the answer is always dahl (lentil soup). It is the best comfort food as it has rich layers of flavours and feels like a soupy warm hug.

Everyone seems to have their own recipe, and mine does change slightly each time I make it, as I might add an extra spice or omit one. This is the base slow cook dahl recipe using coconut oil and ghee. You can also add veggies and chillis for a bit of a kick.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of lentils
  • 1 garlic clove
  • thumb size of ginger
  • 1TBS coconut oil and ghee
  • 1 tomato
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1-2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 vege stock cube
  • few chives
  • few curry leaves
  • 5-6 cups of water

To make:

  • Chop the tomato and chive. Crush the garlic, ginger and cumin seeds.
  • Set the slow cooker to saute mode.
  • Add the coconut oil and ghee to the pot with crushed ingredients and saute.
  • Add the remainder of the ingredients to the pot and mix them together.
  • Set the slow cooker to high for 5 hours.
  • Vent, stir and enjoy.
