Primal Health Paleo Friendly Banana Bread Recipe

Primal Health Paleo Banana Bread Recipe

I regularly make banana bread using the typical flour and butter recipe, so I was curious about the result of baking a Primal health paleo banana bread with coconut oil and coconut flour. The recipe has zero sugar, and the taste was better than any other banana bread I’ve had.

Following on from my Interview With A Primal Health Coach (which you can read by clicking here), Michelle (the primal health coach) sent me a recipe from Family Food.

Primal Health Paleo Banana Bread Recipe

  • 3/4 cup of coconut flour
  • 3/4 cup of almond meal
  • 1 cup of melted coconut oil and extra for greasing the pan
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla bean powder ( I used extract)
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 5 ripe bananas ( I used 4 as that’s all I had)
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 1/2 tablespoons of honey

  • Preheat oven to 160 degrees C
  • Grease a 20cm x 12 cm pan with coconut oil and line it with baking paper.
  • Combine all the dry ingredients.
  • Mash most of the bananas, save a bit and cut diagonally – this will go on top of the batter.
  • Whisk eggs, vanilla, and honey in another bowl, and then stir in mashed banana.
  • Combine the dry and wet ingredients and add the coconut oil. Mix well.
  • Spoon the batter into the pan and add the cut bananas on top.
  • Bake for 15 mins, remove from the oven and cover with foil. Return the pan to the oven and bake for a further 45-50 mins, or until a skewer comes out clean.
  • Leave it in the tin for 10 mins, and then cool it on a wire rack.
  • Enjoy.

Benefits of Using Coconut Oil and Coconut Flour:

Switching to coconut oil and coconut flour in your banana bread recipe brings several health benefits. Coconut oil contains healthy saturated fats known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are easily digestible and can boost energy. Coconut flour is gluten-free, high in fibre, and adds a subtle coconut flavour to your baked goods. Together, they create a nutrient-rich alternative to traditional baking ingredients.

Zero-Sugar, All-Natural Sweetness:

One of the standout features of this Primal Health Paleo Banana Bread is its zero-sugar content. Instead of relying on refined sugars, the recipe uses the natural sweetness of ripe bananas and a touch of honey. This enhances the flavour and aligns with Primal Health principles, focusing on whole, unprocessed ingredients.

Adaptations and Personalisation:

This recipe allows for flexibility and personalisation. You can experiment with the number of bananas based on your preference for sweetness. Additionally, feel free to add nuts, seeds, or dried fruits for extra texture and flavour. The Primal approach encourages intuitive cooking, so don’t hesitate to make this recipe your own.

Mindful Baking Process:

Incorporating mindfulness into baking is a key aspect of the Primal Health approach. Taking the time to select high-quality, organic ingredients and being present during each step of the recipe contributes to a holistic culinary experience. Mindful baking aligns with the broader philosophy of primal living, emphasising a connection to the food we consume.
